Frequently Asked Questions:

Which deck goes with this kayak? AE2022?

Depends on what you want. I prefer to run mine open and have the flexibility to accommodate 1, 2, or 3 people without a deck. However, if you wish to enclose it, you will need AE2021 for a single rider seated in the center or AE2022 for two. This kayak is highly versatile and receives many compliments from users. It provides the added benefit of easy transportation when compared to hard-shell kayaks.

Do the AE inflatables take a beating when beaching the kayak?

Yes, but it's important to note that I treat this kayak with more care than a conventional rigid version. With that being said, I've taken it out about six times last summer for fishing trips and it has held up strong. We used boat launches and even did a few rocky island beachings without any issues.

My problem is all the water that comes through the zipper on the top of the bow. Drips into the kayak into my lap! Is there any way to stop that?

Sometimes, it helps to check your paddling technique and see if you can adjust the angle of your stroke to minimize the water hitting the boat. However, if you're still experiencing water entering through the zipper, there are several options to waterproof it. Personally, I recommend using chapstick, which has worked well for me in the past. Floor wax and beeswax are also effective options. Additionally, there are specific marine and car products available on platforms like Amazon, such as 303, that can waterproof fabric. If these solutions don't provide relief, consider adding a small cover flap, possibly using velcro tape instead of sewing.

Which deck goes with this kayak? AE2022?

Depends what you want. I run mine open and have 1, 2 & 3 people in it without a deck zipped on. If you wish to enclose it you will need AE2021 for single rider seated in the center or AE2022 for two. This is an awesome kayak and you get many compliments if you don't already have one. Best part is laughing (inside) at all the hard-side kayaker's trying to carry all their stuff and load it all into/onto vehicles. . . . pop/pop on the valves, stuff in in the back of whatever you're driving an you're gone.

Do the AE inflatables take a beating when beaching the kayak?

Yes - with the understanding that I am a lot more gentle with this kayak than with a conventional rigid version. I took it out about six times last summer to fish from and have not had a problem yet. We used the boat launches, did a few rocky island beachings and its holding up strong.

My problems is all the water that comes through the zipper on the top of the bow. Drips into the kayak into my lap! Anyway to stop that?

Sometimes it helps to check your paddling technique and see if you are "leading" the water on the boat or if you can correct it and get a dryer stroke. But to waterproof a zipper, you have many choices. I still swear by chapstick. The good old generic, black and white chapstick. I have also used a block of floor wax and beeswax for our tents and they work great. There are specific marine and car products for waterproofing fabric, like 303, which you can get quick and cheap on Amazon. If you are still not getting relief, I would think about adding a small cover flap, maybe even using velcro tape so you don't have to sew. Hope that helps!
