The Ocean Kayak Rudder Kit is a must-have accessory for kayakers who want to gain more control and achieve better efficiency in windy conditions or fast currents. With this kit, you can significantly enhance your paddling experience and enjoy smoother navigation.
The Ocean Kayak Universal Rudder Kit is the original rudder kit from Ocean Kayak, ensuring high quality and compatibility. It comes with comprehensive instructions, making it easy to install and set up. No need to worry about complicated installation processes.
This rudder kit is designed to fit various Ocean Kayak models, including Trident 11 and 13, Prowler 13, Prowler Big Game Angler, Tetra 10 and 12, the Zest 2, and Drifters manufactured from 2013 onwards. So, if you own any of these kayak models, this kit is a perfect fit for you.
Adding a rudder to your kayak offers superior turning ability and control in windy conditions. Paddling against strong winds becomes much easier, and you can maintain your desired direction effortlessly. The rudder allows you to make precise maneuvers, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable paddling experience.
My prowler 13 has molded foot wells instead of pegs and tracks. Will this kit work for me?
It appears there is a flat molded section above the foot pegs that would allow the installation of this kit. So yes, it looks to be an easy install.
Will this fit a 16' Aquaterra Chinook?
One can modify just about anything to work on just about anything, but having taken a quick glance at a picture of the stern of an Aquaterra Chinook, there are better options available. The mount plate on the rudder assembly is engineered to fit on some pre-installed well nuts on the backs of Johnson Outdoors products with a fairly "blunt" stern. The Aquaterra Chinook appears to have a much sharper point at the stern. Good luck finding a more suitable option.
Will this kit fit a prowler 15?
Assuming you mean the Trident 15, then most likely. If your boat has a fairly "squarish" back with 4 pre-installed well nuts, they are probably in the right positions for this kit. Some pictures of Trident 15s with this rudder bolted on can be found through a quick Google image search. However, considering Austin Kayak only lists this kit for 13-foot boats, the included cables might not be long enough. But this can be easily fixed with a trip to the hardware store. If your boat doesn't have pre-installed well nuts, it is recommended to go for a more generic rudder kit. Good luck and tight lines!
Will this fit my Trident 15?
I installed this kit on my Trident 15 last Spring, and I wish I would have gotten it sooner. Although the instructions are too general, with common sense, it fits perfectly. This rudder truly transforms your boat. Good luck with the installation!

One can modify just about anything to work on just about anything but having taken a quick glance at a pic of the stern of an Aquaterra Chinook, I have to believe there are better options out there. Aside from cables on this one likely being too short, the mount plate on the rudder assembly itself is engineered to fit on some pre-installed well nuts on the backs of Johnson Outdoors products that have a fairly "blunt" stern. From the pic I just looked at, it appears your boat has a much sharper point at the stern.Good luck.
Assuming you mean the Trident 15 then I'd say most likely. If your boat is fairly "squarish" on the back with 4 well nuts pre-installed they are probably at the right positions for this kit. I did a google image search and saw a couple pics of Trident 15s that have this rudder bolted on. Austin Kayak sells this same kit and also only lists it for 13 foot boats so I'm not sure if the included cables are long enough but that would be an easy hardware store fix. If you don't have the pre-installed well nuts you may be better off going to a more generic rudder kit. Good luck and tight lines!
I installed this kit on my trident 15 last Spring and I wish I would have gotten it sooner. The instructions are too general, but with common sense it fits perfect. You will have a different boat with this rudder! Good luck.
